🌺 Hibiscus is one of my go-to botanicals for helping those living with high blood pressure. Naturally I was giddy when I came across this article, especially after reading that the results are consistent with what I’ve observed in my practice.
Hibiscus sabdariffa is a flower rich in vitamin C, anthocyanidins, tannins and other flavonoids that make it useful in supporting cardiovascular health, kidney function, and systemic inflammation. (2)
This group conducted a meta-analysis of 26 randomized trials and found that, when used for 4+ weeks consistently, Hibiscus use was associated with (1):
✨ Significant reductions in both systolic and diastolic blood pressure, comparable to standard antihypertensive medications. Notably, individuals over 50 years of age experienced therapeutic reductions exceeding 10 mmHg.
✨ Decreased total cholesterol and LDL-C levels, along with an increase in HDL-C, contributing to improved lipid profiles.
✨ Lower fasting blood glucose levels, indicating potential benefits for blood sugar management.
