Autoimmunity

Think of your immune system like a smoke alarm designed to protect your house. When it's working properly, it only sounds the alarm when there is significant danger, such as a fire caused by a virus, bacteria, or injury.
In the case of autoimmunity, however, the smoke alarm becomes overly sensitive. It starts going off even when there’s no true fire, like if you've been toasting bread or taking a hot shower. Your immune system, much like that faulty alarm, begins to misinterpret normal, healthy parts of your body as threats and triggers an unnecessary attack.
Over time, these "false alarms" can cause real and lasting damage to your body’s tissues, depending on where the immune system is misfiring. Different autoimmune conditions can affect one or multiple tissues or organ systems, and some individuals may live with more than one autoimmune diagnosis at the same time.
I’ve had the privilege of supporting individuals living with a wide range of autoimmune conditions, including:
Joints: Rheumatoid arthritis, Lupus, and other connective tissue diseases
Digestive Tract: Inflammatory bowel diseases such as Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis, autoimmune gastritis, and celiac disease
Pancreas: Type 1 diabetes
Thyroid: Hashimoto’s thyroiditis and Graves’ disease
Nervous System: Multiple sclerosis (MS), Guillain-Barré syndrome, and chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy (CIDP)
Skin & Eyes: Psoriasis, Sjögren’s syndrome
Blood Vessels: Vasculitis
If you're navigating symptoms that feel unexplained, have been newly diagnosed, or have been living with autoimmunity for years, naturopathic medicine offers a whole-person approach to help you feel empowered & supported. Through a combination of nutrition, lifestyle therapy, gut health optimization, and gentle immune system modulation, we can work together to improve this balance and your resulting quality of life.
